C’est Jemima Khan qui a donné le coup d’envoi de la campagne sur Twitter. L’ambassadrice d’UNICEF au Royaume-Uni vient en aide, par ce biais, aux enfants victimes du conflit en Syrie. A l’heure actuelle, ils sont plus de 6,5 millions à avoir besoin de soutien: il est donc plus que nécessaire et urgent de sensibiliser l’opinion publique afin de l’inciter au don.
Jemima Khan, rapidement rejointe par d’autres personnalités telles que Naomi Campbell, Hugh Grant, Stephen Fry, Keeley Hawes ou encore Tom Hiddleston, invite ainsi les internautes a publier leur selfie #WakeUpCall sur Twitter ou Facebook et en même temps nommer trois de leurs amis pour qu’ils en fassent autant. ‘Wake Up Call’ peut se traduire par ‘se réveiller’ ou encore ‘tirer la sonnette d’alarme’ : un dispositif qui vise à réveiller les consciences.
Pour faire un don à l’UNICEF, il suffit d’envoyer SYRIA au 70007 (5£ seront alors débitées) ou se rendre directement sur le site dédié.
